The diary belongs to the Havveli's cook, Shanti (voiceover by Seema Biswas). She writes: "Thakur saab ne Margaret ko nahi maara. Usse jinda rakha hai. Neeche, aag ke paas." (Thakur didn't kill Margaret. He kept her alive. Down below, near the fire.) Rohan descends into a basement boiler room. He finds a modern freezer (installed in 1972 – an anachronism that signals something wrong). Inside is not Margaret, but the body of the Thakur himself. He was the prisoner. Margaret was the villain—a con artist who posed as an archaeologist to steal the diamonds and then trapped the Thakur in the basement to starve to death.

Architect Rohan Mehra (newcomer Arjun Ahuja) is hired by the government to renovate the havveli into a heritage hotel. Rohan is a rationalist. He doesn't believe in ghosts. He brings only his laptop, a laser measuring tool, and a sleeping bag. The First Clue On day three, Rohan measures a discrepancy. The exterior wall length (50 meters) does not match the interior hallway (45 meters). A 5-meter void exists. He finds a loose brick behind a painting of a dancing peacock.
