The movie revolves around Michael Duffy (John Cusack), a writer who is struggling with his work and his personal life. One day, while on a business trip to New York City, he decides to check into room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel, despite the hotel's creepy reputation and a warning from the manager, Mr. O'Rourke (Jerry Stiller). As Duffy settles into his room, he begins to experience a series of bizarre and terrifying events that challenge his perceptions of reality.
